Apple kwam gisteravond plots met een reeks software-updates, waaronder macOS Sequoia 15.4 en iOS 18.4. Dat was nogal een verrassing. Vooral voor de iPhone-update: Apple verklapte de afgelopen maanden een aantal keer dat de iOS-update pas in april zou verschijnen, want gebruikers in de Europese Unie zouden vanaf die maand toegang krijgen tot Apple Intelligence. Vandaar dat een release op 31 maart gisteren totaal uit de lucht kwam vallen.
Of die release nou een vervroegde 1 aprilgrap is of niet: macOS Sequoia 15.4 is nu beschikbaar! Deze update wil je gauw installeren, want hij brengt niet alleen prestatieverbeteringen en probleemoplossingen met zich mee, maar ook een heleboel nieuwe functies.

Wat is er nieuw?
macOS Sequoia 15.4 introduceert geen grote vernieuwingen, maar wel kleine nieuwe functies waarmee je meer uit je Mac kunt halen. Vooral voor Apple Intelligence! Zo zijn Apple’s AI-functies nu beschikbaar in acht extra talen en heeft Apple twee varianten van het Engels toegevoegd. Het gaat om: Engels (India, Singapore), Frans (Frankrijk, Canada), Duits (Duitsland), Italiaans (Italië), Japans (Japan), Koreaans (Zuid-Korea), Portugees, (Braziliaans), Vereenvoudigd Chinees en Spaans (Spanje, Latijns-Amerika, de Verenigde Staten). Het Nederlands schittert nog altijd door afwezigheid, maar wil je toch Apple Intelligence gebruiken, dan moet je je Mac instellen op een taal die wél beschikbaar is.
Over Apple Intelligence gesproken: Apple heeft hier nog meer aan gesleuteld! Zo heeft de Image Playground een nieuwe stijl gekregen (‘Sketch’), om plaatjes te genereren die lijken op tekeningen. Ook kun je in Foto’s nu zelf aangeven wat voor Terugblikvideo de app moet genereren door dit te omschrijven. Een laatste hoogtepunt vinden we in de Mail-app: deze sorteert je mails voortaan in verschillende categorieën, voor meer overzicht. Die laatste vernieuwing valt niet officieel onder Apple Intelligence, maar werkt wel alleen in het Engels.
Wat er verder nieuw is in macOS Sequoia 15.4? Een heleboel! Twee extra widgets voor Podcasts, nieuwe emoji’s, allerlei opties om Foto’s verder naar je hand te zetten – noem maar op. Apple heeft alles op een rij gezet in de release notes. Die vind je hieronder. Let wel op: vooralsnog zijn de release notes nog niet beschikbaar in het Nederlands, dus hier volgt de Engelse versie.
This update introduces the ability to create Memory movies in Photos with Apple Intelligence, a new Sketch Style option in Image Playground, Mail Categorization, and enhancements to better organize and filter your library in Photos. This release also includes other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your Mac.
Apple Intelligence (Mac with M1 and later)
- Memory movies can be created by describing the story you want to see in Photos
- Sketch is now available as a style option in Image Playground, so you can create gorgeous drawings
- Apple Intelligence features support 8 additional languages and 2 additional English locales, including English (India, Singapore), French (France, Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Spanish (Spain, Latin America, US)
- Mail Categorization sorts your messages to help you prioritize the most important messages
Photos
- New filter to show or hide items not contained in an album in the Library view
- Retouch brush is included in the Clean Up tool
- Reorder items in the Media Types and Utilities collections
- Consistent filtering options in all collections, including the ability to sort by oldest or newest first
- Option to sort albums by Date Modified
- Disable “Recently Viewed” and “Recently Shared” collections from the View menu
This update also includes the following enhancements and bug fixes:
- New widgets for Podcasts including a Followed Shows widget to track your favorite shows and a Library widget to get to your most used sections, such as Latest Episodes, Saved, and Downloaded
- Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled in the Home app as well as be added to scenes and automations
- Resolves an issue where certain external displays might not be able to turn off Night Shift
- Increases the default maximum memory allocation limit available to the GPU on Mac Studio (2025) with M3 Ultra with 256GB or 512GB of unified memory
- Improves transcoding performance in Final Cut Pro on Mac Studio (2025) with M3 Ultra
- Screen Time App Limits persist even after a child uninstalls and reinstalls an app
- Fixes an issue where VoiceOver navigates elements in incorrect order in Music
- Addresses an issue where a Braille display may show an incorrect line when navigating lines with left or right arrows
macOS Sequoia 15.4 installeren
Wil je de update downloaden en installeren? Open hiervoor Systeeminstellingen op je Mac, klik op ‘Algemeen’ en ‘Software-update’. Als het goed is, staat de update hier voor je klaar: klik op ‘Werk nu bij’ om de update direct te installeren of op ‘Werk vannacht bij’ om dit later te doen. Daarna kun je los met alle nieuwe functies!
